Steven Zastrow

Steven Zastrow passed away January 2, 2026. Steven was born February 18, 1940 in Santa Rosa, California. He was raised by Charles and Adah Zastrow with four brothers.

Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He entered Nuclear Power School where he graduated 14th in a class of approximately 142 students. He was also named sailor of the year (1952) on his ship, the USS Mississippi, and met President Jimmy Carter.

Steve always strived to be his best at whatever he pursued, and his Navy record showed it. He left the service in 1980 as Chief Master Sergeant, the highest rank for an enlisted man. That same year, he accepted a job as an engineer at Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. He worked at the Nuclear Power Plant at Waltz Mill outside North Huntingdon, PA.

Steve loved going on cruises, visiting casinos, dining at expensive restaurants, watching football (especially the Steelers), traveling to foreign countries, and playing games or cards on Saturday evening with his family.

He is survived by his wife Lorita Zastrow, step-son Robert Cherry, and son Richard Zastrow. Preceding him in death is son Steve Zastrow and step-son Raymond Cherry. His oldest brother, Fred, is still alive, as are various nephews and nieces. He has three granddaughters and one grandson.

Steve was honorable, had integrity and a quiet, unassuming demeanor, which brought joy and love to all who met him. He loved God, his country, family, and friends more than anything and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace my beloved husband.
