Dawn Marie (Jacob) Marincic

We are sad to announce the death of Dawn Marie (Jacob) Marincic of North Huntingdon, after a brief illness, but a long life (85). She was born and died at McKeesport Hospital.  She worked as a dental assistant for 26 years after receiving certification from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry.  She was also trained as an Emergency Medical Technician.  She volunteered as an adult literacy tutor with the Westmoreland County Literacy Council for 15 years, where she made lifelong friends. She was an avid reader herself. Dawn is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years (Robert) and is survived by her three fantastic children (her words!), Andrea Mervis, (husband Michael), Sandy (who stuck around to do the laundry), and Bob (of Columbus, Ohio), her two fabulous grandsons (again, her words), Cormac (Mick) and Roarke, and her favorite daughter-in-law, Ellen Shackelford. Dawn loved to travel and visited more than 15 countries in her lifetime. South Africa to speak at her grand-niece’s wedding was a major highlight. She wrote out an actual, physical bucket list and although she didn’t cross everything off, she did manage to go zip-lining on her 80th birthday and skydiving two months later. She had an amazing circle of friends, including at least a dozen young people that gave her so much joy with their visits and care.  Lots of people knew they were always welcome to stop by her garage (with their dogs) and share a beer or a cigarette or a story.  Her circle was headed by her best friend, Shirley Stewart.  Shirley’s 3 children (Joanna, Sonny and Chris) were her honorary grandchildren and as a family, our journey through this process is eased beyond measure by Shirley and Joanna’s presence. She also wanted you to know she was a cat person.

Arrangements

Dawn Marie did not want a funeral so there will not be an immediate service.  Instead, she wanted a festive celebration of her life which will happen once we are in more of a party mood.
