Mitchell Carter Nelson, 60, passed away on April 3, 2026 following a long battle with complex illnesses.
Born in McKeesport, PA, Mitch will be remembered for his intelligence, curiosity, and the kindness he extended to those around him.
Mitch achieved degrees in Physics and Management, and he had a successful 38-year career grounded in manufacturing. He leaves a job as a Production Planning Supervisor at American Textile Manufacturing in Duquesne, PA.
In his personal time, Mitch was an avid reader, a fan of fantasy literature (LitRPGs) and science fiction, and a passionate home cook. A lifelong fan of superheros, Mitch had a deep appreciation for Marvel and DC comic books, movies, and television, and he enjoyed sharing those interests and trivia with family and friends.
He maintained a lifelong interest in space and astrophysics, and his curiosity about the future never faded. Days before he died, he was heavily invested in the Artemis II space mission, and what it would mean for our future.
The highlight of Mitch’s life was caring for both his children and wife, Linda (Hess) Nelson, the love of his life who lost her valiant battle with breast cancer in 2013.
He was also preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Nelson (Linda) and his sister, Kelly DeVoe (Richard). He is survived by his children, Logan Nelson and Bellamy Hess; his mother, Constance (Stepansky) Nelson; his siblings, Doug (Freda) Nelson and Cheryl (Bret) Hyter; and extended family and friends.
