Manilla L. Hayes, 82, passed on from her life on June 28, 2025 at her home in Mountain View Assisted Living in Greensburg surrounded by the love of her family – past and present. She was born on Oct 28, 1942 in the Mid-Mon Valley town of Donora, and raised in a proud Italian family. She graduated in 1960 from Donora High School and went on to serve others by becoming a registered nurse through Saint Francis School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA. She worked hard and was a tough-as-nails mother, raising three daughters – Bibianna (Zubovic) Goetz of Charleroi, Nadine (Zubovic) Visnic of Murrysville, and Jonelle Zubovic (Formerly Hanawalt) of Greensburg. But, true to her Italian heritage, her pride and joy was her five grandchildren – Josh Goetz (Irwin), Breanna Goetz (Bethel Park), Madeline Visnic (Murrysville), and Zach & Samantha Hanawalt (Both of Greensburg), who affectionately called her “Ya Ya”. She also leaves behind one nephew through her older sister Sabina – Jim Mault (wife Sue) of Pollock Pines, California and their children Jenna and William (Will) Mault.
Manilla was met in heaven by her husband of 34 years Joseph C. Hayes, with whom she shared the exact same birthday and grew up together on the same street in Donora. She joined her family in heaven, including her parents Manillo D. and Adeline “Dolly” (Nudo) Sala, her older sister Sabina Sala, younger sister Adeline Sala, many cousins, Aunts, and Uncles. But of special closeness was Lebro “Lee” Sala & his wife Eniss“Ena” (Nudo) Sala. Two Sala brothers married two Nudo sisters. Manilla was an avid reader, enjoyed history and her crime shows, loved decorating for Halloween & seeing the kids in costume, and of course “soaking up” the sun and laughing with her grandchildren. She will be missed dearly and remembered for her vivid red colored hair, stylish clothing, bold jewelry, her sarcasm, and boisterous belly laughs.
Manilla’s family would like to extend gratitude toward the kind staff of Mountain View Assisted Living (especially Roxi, KK, Kelsey, and Lakwaya) and the residents who shared sarcasm and laughter with her (Chris, Cheryl, Joyce, and Betty).
Go swiftly to heaven, Mom! You got your running legs back.
