Jean J. Bernath, 88, of North Versailles, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away at home with her family by her side Thursday, January 23, 2025. She will be reunited in Heaven with her loving husband of nearly 71 years, Charles Bernath who passed away in 2016.
She was born in Braddock, PA on March 5, 1936, the daughter of the late John and Marcella Waicis, sister of the late Charles Waicis (Dolly), and sister in law of the late Betty Donaldson (Red).
Surviving are her 5 beloved children, Deborah Ward (Scott) of North Huntington, Cheryl Jean Miller (James) of Washington, Marilyn Urban (Michael) of Trafford, Barbara Bernath (Ernie Pais) of Verona, and Charles Bernath (Robin) of Natrona Heights. She is adored by 11 grandchildren including 5 granddaughters, Heather Maurizio, Suzanne Miller, Elissa Sunseri, Marla Dibuo, and Megan Carter; and 6 grandsons, Michael Ward, Douglas Ward, David Miller, Miles Urban, Weston Bernath, and Conner Bernath. She also cherished her 11 great grandchildren including great granddaughters, Isabella Jean Priest, Mia Maurizio, Cicely Sunseri, Bianca Sunseri, Lila Miller, Tessa Miller, and Serena Dibuo; and 4 great grandsons, Ben Priest, Roman Maurizio, James Sunseri, and Grant Dibuo. She had many beloved members of her extended family, living and deceased.
Jean was a woman of strong Roman Catholic faith and was very active in her local parish including being a member of the Christian Women’s Association for many years. She loved cooking her famous Lithuanian dishes, sewing, making ceramics, playing cards and bingo, bowling, dancing to polkas and the song “Wooly-Bully,”and enjoying vacations at the beach with Charles and her family in Ocean City, Maryland during the summers. Jean and Charles loved to travel during their retirement years via several bus trips on “Bus One” with their friends, touring many states and historical sites. They were also avid Steeler fans and were longtime-season ticket holders going back to the super bowl seasons in the 70’s. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family on her porch while her husband Charles barbecued and played polka music for all.

MY CONDOLENCES TO THE BERNATH FAMILIES, RIP JEAN, THE PETROVAY FAMILY
I love you so much! We spent so much time together and shared so many memories and conversations. I know that you loved me, you told me so many times how much you appreciated me and how thankful you were that I was there for you. I am so grateful that I was able to carry out your wishes even though I received so much grief from family members. I would do it all again. I wanted you to be comfortable and cared for just like dad would have wanted. I miss you so much and think about you everyday. I look forward to seeing you again in heaven! Please rest in peace with dad until we meet again.
