John Andrew Getsy, Jr.

John Andrew Getsy, Jr. age 89, passed away September 11, 2023 at Hillcrest Hospital, Cleveland, OH. He was born November 27, 1933 in Braddock, PA. and lived in North Versailles, PA and later in Leroy Township, OH.

John was the beloved husband of Patricia (Sedlak) Getsy for 68 years. Son of John A. Getsy, Sr., and Mary (Lario) Getsy. Brother of Dennis Getsy, and the late Thomas and Frederick Getsy. Father of John “Jay” Getsy and Joy (Paul) Getsy Jurkovic. Grandfather of John “Joe” (Alexandra) Getsy, James “Jim” Getsy, and Paul Jurkovic, Jr. John held an Associate’s Degree from CCAC in Computer Aided Drafting. He was employed by Westinghouse Electric, East Pittsburgh, LRA for 37 years and then PSM Technologies followed finally by Power Quality Systems. John had a storied career in water wheel generator design, working on generators at Niagara Falls and Porto Alegre, Brazil. He provided skilled draftsman support to the largest high-power electrical test laboratory in the America’s and prototype electrical power unit equipment manufacture. John had a multitalented and diverse skillset working at Regent Beverage with his father, Ray Miller transmissions, and as a pin spotter during boyhood. John was an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania. He enjoyed spending time at his log cabin in the Allegheny National Forest, Marienville, PA. He enjoyed stained glass projects, antiques, car shows, and was a member of the Pittsburgh Banjo Club. He will be sorely missed but his positive outlook, sense of humor, and thirst for life will live on in all of us.

Mass of Christian Burial Friday September 22, 10am, Good Shepherd Church/St Joseph the Worker Parish, Braddock, PA.

Burial will follow at All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Braddock Hills, PA.

    The boys and I are so very sorry for the loss of your beloved husband, father and grandfather. We feel very blessed we were able to meet him a few times.
